WiiM Pro Plus

A versatile and affordable high-performance streamer

The WiiM Pro Plus lets you add high-res streaming to pretty much any sound system. Its high-performance DAC circuitry delivers rich, detailed sound that rivals streamers costing several times more, so you can get the best out of music services like Qobuz, TIDAL, Spotify, and more.

This streamer can be part of a multi-room music system that allows you to add digital and analog sources - like a turntable - with ease, thanks to its analog input and analog-to-digital (ADC) chip. It also has built-in room correction. And it all fits into an unobtrusive, compact component that you can place almost anywhere.

User-friendly streaming options

This streamer connects to your home network using Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and it's super-easy to set up using the free WiiM Home app for Apple® and Android™ devices. You can access and manage a bunch of music services from within the app, and control music across multiple WiiM players in different rooms (additional players sold separately). A sync audio option in the WiiM app uses a built-in mic on the Pro Plus to get rid of any playback latency between grouped devices.

Plenty of users will take advantage of its Google Cast, Apple AirPlay 2, and Alexa support - both for single-zone and multi-room streaming. It also works with Spotify Connect and TIDAL Connect, which give you access to the Pro Plus natively from within those apps.

Two-way Bluetooth lets you stream wirelessly from your compatible smartphone, tablet, computer, or other device using that familiar and popular platform to play music through whatever sound system your Pro Plus is connected to. You can also stream from the Pro Plus to your favorite Bluetooth headphones or speaker.

Getting familiar with the Pro Plus

I took a sample Pro Plus home for some hands-on testing. I connected it directly to my Parasound Zamp v3 driving MartinLogan floor-standing speakers connected with Tributaries audio, speaker, and power cables - simplicity itself. Setup was fast and easy with the streamlined, user-friendly app. Glitch-free streaming via Qobuz sounded full, rich, and detailed - in fact, its audio quality beats any streamer that I've tested or owned in its price range and is easily on par with or better than much more expensive ones.

The Rudy Van Gelder-produced Stone Flower album from Antonio Carlos Jobim absolutely glistened when I played it through the Pro Plus. Jobim's melodic guitar, piano lines, and occasional vocals drifted like smoke through Eumir Deodato's chill-yet-tense arrangements, underpinned by Ron Carter's nimble, in-the-pocket bass and the impeccable polyrhythmic interplay of percussionists with drummer João Palma.

The Pro Plus rendered John Anderson's stomping "Wild and Blue" - with Anderson's soulful, idiosyncratic vocals and Buddy Spicher's fiddle driving the crack Nashville band - with a lively, lifelike soundstage full of musical detail. And for a reality check, I played one of my standby reference tracks: Steely Dan's "Aja" - yup...clear, articulate, and muscular sound.

Versatile multi-room performance

I also tested the WiiM Pro and Mini at the same time. I used the Pro's analog stereo RCA output to connect to my NAD C700 integrated amp driving ELAC bookshelf speakers. I connected the Mini via its 3.5mm analog aux output to a Boston Acoustics table radio I bought at CapitalSound.ca around 2010.

Grouping and controlling all three WiiMs together worked great when I used the WiiM Home app, with fast playback response and stable settings that stay put - you don't have to re-pair every time you start a fresh streaming session. Engaging the sync audio feature quickly and efficiently corrected an initial delay between the three devices. The Pro Plus and Pro both support Chromecast Built-in, and grouping those two together using Chromecast built-in worked well. Using AirPlay 2 to group all three streamers also worked fine, but with the slower control response and slightly less-detailed sound of that ecosystem.

High-performance DAC circuitry

The Pro Plus uses a premium AKM VELVETSOUND™ DAC along with an ultra-low-noise clock. It's also got a high-quality Texas Instruments op-amp (essentially a preamp stage), and a carefully chosen power supply. The sum of this thoughtfully designed circuitry helps the Pro Plus deliver exceptionally clear and dynamic sound from your streaming and digital sources.

Flexible audio connections

You can connect to your receiver, amp, or powered speakers using the analog stereo RCA output to take advantage of the Pro Plus's DAC. Or use a digital output to connect to your favorite outboard DAC.

You can also connect an analog source like a turntable or cassette deck to its stereo RCA input, or a digital audio source like a TV or CD player to the optical digital input. Then you can stream those sources to other compatible multi-room speakers or WiiM components in your system.

Included remote and voice control

The WiiM Pro Plus comes with a remote that lets you control playback and more. You can even add the remote to your Alexa account and use its built-in mic to make voice commands. Or control it via your favorite Google Assistant or Alexa device or Siri on your iPhone® .
