Features
2-Way Bookshelf Loudspeaker: The SVS Ultra Evolution Bookshelf speaker employs a 2-way driver design featuring a 1" diamond coated aluminum dome tweeter and a 6.5" glass fiber cone mid/bass woofer that are seamlessly blended by a premium 2-way crossover network (with premium-grade capacitors, inductors, resistors, and heavy-trace printed circuit board) for a sound that is revealing, detailed, and dynamic. The Ultra Evolution Bookshelf speaker will give the impression of a much larger loudspeaker without sacrificing refinement or accuracy.
- Diamond Coated Aluminum Dome Tweeter: Through a process called Vapor Deposition, a layer of diamond carbon is applied to the aluminum dome tweeter to vastly improve rigidity and acoustic properties. This breakthrough in material science raises the frequency response well beyond the limits of human hearing resulting in effortless, airy, and unveiled highs with no measurable distortion. The diamond coating also pushes low frequency extension of the tweeter deeper for more seamless blending with the midrange. An Organic cell lattice tweeter diffuser protects the dome and employs semi-random pattern derived from organic cell structures to improve off-axis response and maximize the listening "sweet spot".
- Glass Fiber Composite Cone Woofer: The 6.5" glass fiber composite cone woofer with rubber surround offers superb stiffness-to-mass ratio that conveys stunning dynamics with flawless tonal accuracy, and deep, accurate bass. The glass fiber composite cone woofer sits inside a precision-cast aluminum-alloy basket to ensure precise alignment of critical components and maximize thermal dissipation. Its vented aluminum voice coil former maximizes thermal control while minimizing air compression artifacts at high drive levels.
Time Aligned Cabinet Geometry: The acoustically tuned enclosure of the SVS Ultra Evolution Bookshelf speaker optimizes low frequency tuning and eliminates any potential for cabinet resonances, resulting in pristine sound across the frequency spectrum. FEA-optimized 3/4" MDF cabinet construction, bracing, and acoustic insulation eliminate acoustic and structural resonances, ensuring an inert enclosure and an uncolored response, even at the highest drive levels. The extra-thick 1" curved front baffle provides a rigid, resonance-free mounting surface for the drivers, plus aligns the sonic radiation point of the tweeter and woofer on a vertical plane ensuring sound from each driver reaches your ears at the exact same instant - maximizing phase coherence for a more convincing and immersive soundstage with pinpoint accuracy and imaging.
- Wide-Flared Port: The speaker enclosure is a bass reflex design with a rear-firing 2" wide-flared port to provide greater efficiency and bigger bass response.
- Magnetic Grille: The included acoustically transparent grilles help contribute to reduced edge diffraction and improved on-axis high frequency response. The grilles attach magnetically to the front of the speakers.
Dual Binding Posts: The SVS Ultra Evolution Bookshelf speaker is outfitted with two sets of sturdy binding posts allowing to bi-amp or bi-wire the floorstanding loudspeaker. These binding posts ensure a secure connection to many types of cable and connectors. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, spade-lugs and bare wire (up to 10AWG).
- Bi-Wiring: Bi-wiring can provide noticeable improvements in the overall transparency of your loudspeakers. Run separate speaker wires to the low & high frequency drivers from a single amplifier (the upper set of binding posts are for the high frequency drivers; the lower set of binding posts are for the low frequency drivers).
- Bi-Amping: Bi-amping allows you to use separate amplifiers for the high & low frequency sections of your loudspeaker for greater dynamic range & lower distortion. We recommend that your separate amplifiers have identical gain to preserve the speaker's voicing balance.
Mounting Options: The Ultra Evolution Bookshelf speakers can simply be placed on a stand, shelf, or table-top. Each speaker includes stick-on rubber feet that can be attached to the bottom of the speakers to protect them and your mounting surface. The rubber feet add approximately 0.125" to the overall height of the speakers. There are no included brackets, no keyhole slots, and no threaded inserts to wall mount the speakers.
Applications & Placement: The SVS Ultra Evolution Bookshelf loudspeakers can be used in a dedicated 2.1ch stereo setup or in a multichannel home theater system as fronts and/or surrounds. Proper placement of the front and surround speakers is essential to achieve the smoothest frequency response, optimal imaging and the most spacious, three-dimensional soundstage.
- Front Speakers: Stereo imaging and soundstage are affected by loudspeaker location and the listening position, relative to each other and room boundaries. Moving the loudspeakers away from room boundaries will tend to improve stereo imaging and spaciousness by attenuating and delaying boundary reflections, thus optimizing direct sound and helping to preserve spatial information in the recording. Toeing-in the loudspeakers 25° -30° can often improve imaging, however this is also a function of the distance from nearby boundaries and the ratio of direct-to-reflected sound, so experimentation with toe-in is recommended to obtain optimal results. The location of the front loudspeakers relative to nearby boundaries will excite various "room modes" which will affect the bass response of the loudspeakers. Generally, placing the loudspeakers closer to room boundaries (particularly corners) will increase the bass response. Conversely, moving the loudspeakers away from boundaries and corners will reduce the bass response.
- Surround Speakers: In a 5.1ch system, the side surround speakers should be located 90° -110° off-axis. For the best sense of spaciousness, the tweeter height should be about 2' above ear level. In a 7.1ch system, dedicated rear surround speakers are placed behind the primary seating position for enhanced rear panning effects. Place the rear surround speakers at 135° -150° off-axis, relative to the primary seating position. As with the side surround speakers, position the rear surround tweeters about 2' above head level when seated.
Note: Dedicated room treatments like absorbers, diffusers and bass traps (all sold separately) can greatly improve the sound quality of any listening environment, and are encouraged to extract the absolute best performance from any loudspeaker system.
Ultra Evolution Series: The new Ultra Evolution Series by SVS consists of seven speaker models including three floorstanding loudspeakers (Tower/Titan/Pinnacle), two bookshelf speakers (Nano/Bookshelf), one center channel speaker (Center), and a height speaker (Elevation). The Ultra Evolution Series features SVS advancements in driver design, cabinet architecture, and component materials.
Optional Powered Sub: A SVS powered sub (sold separately) makes a great addition to the Ultra Evolution series of loudspeakers for deeper and more immersive bass.
