3-Way Center Channel Speaker: The SVS Ultra Center is a true 3-way center channel loudspeaker designed with high quality components and sophisticated engineering to provide sonic excellence. From its premium grade drivers and sophisticated SoundMatch three-way crossover to the extra-thick baffle, internal bracing, and FEA optimized tweeter diffuser, the Ultra Center channel speaker is well-equipped play the most important role in a home theater sound system.
1" Aluminum Dome Tweeter: The Ultra Center speaker's aluminum dome tweeter is pristinely neutral and revealing. Light, efficient, rigid and impervious to distortion even at high sound pressure levels, the tweeter plays crystal clear at high volumes for an exceptional transient response with an "airy" transparent presentation. The FEA-optimized tweeter diffuser ensures broad dispersion for a wide and convincing soundstage and perfect on- and off-axis frequency response. This means the largest possible "Sweet Spot", so everyone can be equally immersed with what's happening on-screen.
Composite Glass-Fiber Midrange & Woofers: Composite glass-fiber cones with excellent stiffness to mass ratio provide enhanced sensitivity and voicing that's transparent and completely faithful to the source material - resulting in pinpoint accuracy with precise imaging and massive soundstage. The woofers & midrange driver also utilize an aluminum shorting ring to reduce gap inductance and lower distortion, while a vented voice coil former minimizes air compression artifacts. In addition, the these drivers' cast aluminum baskets ensure precision component alignment and additional heat-sinking capacity.
- 4" Midrange Driver: The 4" midrange driver is housed in its own sub-enclosure and vertically aligned with the 1" aluminum dome tweeter.
- Dual 6.5" Woofers: Dual 6.5" woofers deliver effortless bass output and power handling capabilities rarely found in a center channel home theater speaker.
SoundMatch Crossover Design: The Ultra Center speaker features a unique SVS SoundMatch three-way crossover with precisely tuned crossover frequencies (2.2kHz/500Hz) and slopes that result in a smooth off-axis response, outstanding phase coherency and a stable, robust soundstage. Premium-grade capacitors, air-core inductors and other high end components ensure pristine signal transmission and utter neutrality.
Performance Driven Cabinet Design: Every feature of the Ultra Center speaker's cabinet was designed with a sonic purpose in mind. Non-parallel cabinet panels reduce axial standing waves within the cabinet, reducing frequency response coloration. In addition - wedge shaped front baffles with tapered edges, flush-mounted drivers, and acoustically transparent and FEA optimized grilles all contribute to reduced edge diffraction and improved on-axis high frequency response. Internally, the cabinet employs separate chambers for the woofers, midrange, and tweeter to optimize performance and minimize interaction. The enclosure features dual 1.7" rear-firing wide-flared ports for greater efficiency and bigger bass response.
Dual Gold-Plated Binding Posts: The SVS Ultra Center loudspeaker is outfitted with dual gold-plated, heavy-duty binding post terminals for connection of bare wire, pin-connectors, spade-lugs, and banana connectors (single only). Use 18AWG speaker wire for wire runs up to 10', 16AWG speaker wire for wire runs up to 25', 14AWG speaker wire for wire runs up to 50', and 12AWG speaker wire for wire runs up to 75'. Using the dual binding posts, you can bi-amp or bi-wire the speakers.
- Bi-Wiring: Bi-wiring can provide noticeable improvements in the overall transparency of your loudspeakers. Run separate speaker wires to the low & high frequency drivers from a single amplifier (the upper set of binding posts are for the high frequency drivers; the lower set of binding posts are for the low frequency drivers).
- Bi-Amping: Bi-amping allows you to use separate amplifiers for the high & low frequency sections of your loudspeaker for greater dynamic range & lower distortion. We recommend that your separate amplifiers have identical gain to preserve the speaker's voicing balance.
Placement & Mounting Options: The center channel should be placed directly on-axis, relative to the primary seating position. As with the main front speakers, placing the tweeter at/near head level when seated is optimal. But depending on the placement of the video display or projection screen, this is not always possible. If the center channel must be located below head level, then an upward tilt of the speaker is recommended to improve mid/high frequency response and dialog intelligibility. Avoid placing the center channel too close to the ceiling or floor, as this will cause boundary reflections and degrade the sound quality.
- Stick-on rubber feet are include that attach to the bottom of the speaker to protect it when placed on a shelf or stand. The rubber feet add approximately 0.125" to the overall height of the speaker.
- The Ultra Center is not wall mountable.
Note: Dedicated room treatments like absorbers, diffusers and bass traps (all sold separately) can greatly improve the sound quality of any listening environment, and are encouraged to extract the absolute best performance from any loudspeaker system.
