Dolby Atmos Height Speaker Module: The Dolby Atmos L900 height speaker module integrates directly with Polk's Legend Series L600 and L800 floorstanding loudspeakers (sold separately). The L900 is a flush mounted system instead of a "topper"-type design. It mounts directly to the top of the L600 or L800 speaker. Once installed with the L600 or L800, the height speaker module creates a top-quality sealed box. Not only does this design offer a cleaner look, it also reduces diffraction effects from the baffle for a smoother frequency and time response to the listener.
Note: The Polk L900 height speaker module cannot be used as a stand-alone speaker or with other models of loudspeakers. Its been designed to work specifically with Polk's Legend Series L600 and L800 floorstanding speakers.
Dolby Atmos & DTS:X Compatible: The Polk Legend L900 height speaker module is Dolby Atmos certified and designed to meet DTS:X specification. The L900 is designed to deliver the 3D audio found in today's Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and IMAX enhanced movie and music soundtracks. Once installed on the Legend L800 or L600 loudspeakers, the L900 height speaker module fires sound upwards, which is then reflected off the ceiling and back down to your listening area. As a result, you'll enjoy clear detailed three-dimensional sound without having to install additional speakers in your ceiling.
Note: While the Polk L900 is certified for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X content, nearly any content can be improved with the addition of the L900 height speaker modules. For example, nearly all Dolby Atmos AV receivers feature a Dolby surround up-mixer function that automatically adapts any traditional channel-based signal to the new, full capabilities of your system, including your L900 height modules. This ensures that you hear realistic and immersive 3D sound, no matter what you’re playing.
Two-Way Driver Design: The L900 height speaker module features a two-way driver design with the tweeter and woofer horizontally oriented to ensure phase and time alignment, plus a wide "sweet spot" for an immersive listening experience. Traditional height speakers and toppers from other manufacturers orient their tweeter and woofer vertically, resulting in a small "sweet spot" that can leave you underwhelmed. The L900 height speaker module's horizontal orientation ensures both the phase and time alignment for the tweeter and the woofer deliver a large "sweet spot" for a truly immersive experience.
- 0.75" Pinnacle Ring Radiator Tweeter: Timbre-matched to the Legend floorstanding speakers, the 0.75" Pinnacle ring radiator tweeter is horn loaded to maximize high frequency response and to create that immersive experience.
- 4" Turbine Cone: Utilizing the same Turbine Cone as the Legend Series floorstanding speakers, the height speaker module is timbre-matched and positioned within the array to deliver the most immersive Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and IMAX Enhanced experience.
Note: Adjust your Dolby Atmos AV receiver's bass management setting for the Polk L900 height speaker module to "small". If given a choice of crossover frequency, use 120Hz to 150Hz.
Phoenix Connector: The Polk Legend Series L900 height speaker module is equipped with a 2-pin Phoenix-style connector which plugs into the wiring harness of a compatible L600 or L800 floorstanding speaker. The wiring harness is inside the L600 or L800 and is accessible once you remove the top-panel of the floorstanding loudspeaker.
Installation Instructions: Use the supplied hex-key to remove the four screws holding down the top panel of the L800 or L600 loudspeaker and then lift the top-panel off the floorstanding speaker (store the top-panel safely). Next, connect the wiring harness of the corresponding left or right L900 height speaker module to the connector inside the corresponding L800 or L600 loudspeaker. Taking care to avoid pinching the wires, place the height module into the top of the L800 or L600 loudspeaker. Push on the sides of the height speaker module to seat it firmly before screwing the module down. Use the included hex-key to tighten the screws until snug.
Ceiling Requirements: It's important to know that the L900 is a height speaker module that bounces sound off a ceiling and back toward your listening area. With that in mind, your ceiling plays an important role in the experience. To achieve the best Dolby Atmos or DTS:X experience possible, keep the following in mind.
- Your ceiling should be flat.
- Your ceiling material should be acoustically reflective (examples include drywall, plaster, hardwood or other rigid, non-sound absorbing material).
- Ideal ceiling height is between 7.5' and 12'.
- Maximum recommended height is 14'.
