DIY Tips and Tricks
Outfitting your house with a new multi-room audio system or a new home theater system can results in lots of extra cables lying around. Most people love the idea of having a system like this, but not everyone knows how to deal with the cords. Here are a few tips for organizing and hiding all those wires and cables.
If you don’t mind wires being somewhat visible, you can run wire along your wall or baseboard. This keeps cables and wires up off the floor which is safer, easier for cleaning, and is more visually appealing. You may notice it a little bit, but if you anchor them straight along the wall or baseboard it will not be very noticeable. If you don’t anchor it straight then you’ll have an uneven line of cable that calls the eye’s attention to the cables that you’re trying not to draw attention to.
If you prefer your wiring to be more discreet, there are many options available. You can:
- Run wires behind crown moldings, door jambs, and baseboards, or even run them underneath your carpet.
- Organize cables behind your A/V cabinet. Since there’s space back there and it’s out of sight, you can tie similar cords together and label them for organization.
- Run wires through a closet or cabinetry. This is a bit more involved, but it’s well worth the effort if it means not having to deal with exposed cables running through your home.
- If you’re very dedicated to your A/V setup placement, you can talk to a contractor about concealing cables inside your walls. Or you can do it yourself if you’re the handyman type.
How do you anchor your cables? Try wire ties, raceways, and tacks to anchor and bundle your cables. Don't forget to view our selection of speakers, cables, and accessories as you build your home audio and visual center!
