The CD50n pairs a dedicated CD player with a full network streaming preamp, built around custom-curated Hyper-Dynamic Amplifier Module (HDAM) circuitry that outperforms an off-the-shelf integrated circuit for the low-noise preamp stage and dedicated headphone amp. An ESS Sabre ES9038 DAC with ESS Hyper Stream handles playback up to 11.2MHz DSD128 and 32-bit/384kHz PCM, while Marantz's own Musical Digital Filtering (MMDF) shapes the digital output for the brand's characteristically warm, spacious sound.
Unlike the step-up SACD30n, the CD50n plays standard CD, CD-R, and CD-RW discs only — it isn't SACD-compatible — delivering a 2Hz-96kHz frequency response and 112dB signal-to-noise ratio. An HDMI ARC input lets it receive audio directly from a connected TV, in addition to digital optical and coaxial inputs and USB-A and USB-B inputs for computer and flash-drive playback. HEOS is built in with AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, Spotify Connect, TIDAL, and TuneIn internet radio, over either built-in dual-band Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet.
