Klipsch THX-8000-S — the Current SKU for the THX® Ultra2 In-Wall Surround Speaker Formerly Sold as the KS-7800-THX
The White paintable Klipsch THX-8000-S is the model Klipsch now ships in place of the KS-7800-THX, an 8" THX® Ultra2-certified in-wall surround speaker built specifically for enveloping, wide-dispersion surround coverage in a large dedicated theater. If you have KS-7800-THX surrounds installed already, the THX-8000-S is the correct current-production match.
Same Diffuse-Array Surround Design and Ultra2 Certification
We checked the THX-8000-S’s published specifications against Klipsch’s documentation for the outgoing KS-7800-THX, and the design carries over unchanged: two titanium dome neodymium tweeters arranged in a diffuse Tractrix® horn array, paired with an 8" aluminum cone woofer in a sealed enclosure and a 2130Hz crossover point. Frequency response (80Hz–20kHz ±3dB), sensitivity (90dB), power handling (100W/400W), 8-ohm impedance, and the 20.63"H x 11.63"W cabinet footprint all match the KS-7800-THX, as does the THX® Ultra2 certification — Klipsch specifies this speaker for rooms of roughly 3,000 cubic feet or larger.
Magnetic Grille Is the Documented Change
Klipsch’s current in-wall THX® Ultra2 lineup (verified directly on the THX-8000-L’s spec sheet, which shares the same 8" woofer platform and grille hardware as the THX-8000-S) uses “premium neodymium magnets” to hold the paintable grille flush without any moving parts. Klipsch’s older documentation for the KS-7800-THX does not mention magnetic attachment. Our distributor’s price sheet for this reissue lists “Magnetic Grills” as the update, consistent with what we found across the rest of Klipsch’s current THX® in-wall range.
A Dual-Tweeter Array Built for Surround Duty
Where the THX-8000-L uses a single horn-loaded tweeter aimed at an LCR listening position, the THX-8000-S uses Klipsch’s Wide Dispersion Surround Technology — two neodymium tweeters arranged to diffuse high-frequency energy broadly around the room rather than focus it at a single point. That’s the design difference that makes it a dedicated surround model rather than an LCR speaker used off-axis.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the THX-8000-S the same speaker as the KS-7800-THX?
Acoustically, yes. The dual-tweeter diffuse array, 8" woofer, crossover point, and THX® Ultra2 certification match the KS-7800-THX. Klipsch has updated the model number and grille attachment; the underlying speaker is unchanged.
Can I use the THX-8000-S as an LCR channel instead of a surround?
It’s designed and voiced specifically for wide-dispersion surround duty. For left/center/right channels, Klipsch’s single-tweeter THX-8000-L is the correct model in the same series.
Does the THX-8000-S need a separate install kit?
Like the THX-8000-L, it has an integrated back-can enclosure for retrofit installation and does not require Klipsch’s optional new-construction bracket. Confirm your wall assembly with us or your installer before cutting.
