The White paintable Klipsch THX-5002-S is the model Klipsch now ships in place of the KS-7502-THX, the in-ceiling surround speaker that was the first of its kind to achieve THX® Ultra2 certification. If you own KS-7502-THX surrounds and need a matching replacement or an additional pair, the THX-5002-S is the current-production equivalent.
Same Stacked-Horn Surround Design, Same Certification
The THX-5002-S carries over the KS-7502-THX’s defining feature: two 1" titanium tweeters in vertically-stacked Tractrix® horns, designed to spread high-frequency energy across a wide listening area rather than beaming it at a single seat — important for a surround channel where several people are seated at very different angles to the speaker. That dual-tweeter array is paired with the same dual 5.25" Cerametallic™ woofers, bass-reflex enclosure with a 1.6" front-flush port, and 2500Hz crossover point as the outgoing model. Frequency response (45Hz–20kHz ±3dB), sensitivity (93dB), power handling (100W/400W), and the 14.89" diameter/9.23" mounting-depth footprint are unchanged, and the THX® Ultra2 certification carries over as well.
A Magnetic Grille Is the Documented Update
Klipsch’s current spec sheet for the THX-5002-S calls out “premium neodymium magnets” for the paintable grille, versus the plain paintable-grille description Klipsch used for the older KS-7502-THX with no mention of magnets. Our distributor’s price sheet for this reissue lists this exact change — “Magnetic Grills” — as the reason for the new SKU alongside the renumbering, and that matches what we verified directly against Klipsch’s documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the THX-5002-S the same speaker as the KS-7502-THX?
Acoustically, yes. The dual-tweeter stacked-horn array, woofer complement, crossover, and THX® Ultra2 certification all carry over from the KS-7502-THX. Klipsch updated the model number and moved to a magnetic grille; the underlying speaker is unchanged.
Can I use the THX-5002-L instead of the THX-5002-S for a surround channel?
You can, but the THX-5002-S’s dual stacked-tweeter horn is specifically engineered for wide-dispersion surround coverage, while the THX-5002-L’s single skewed horn is optimized for LCR duty. For a THX®-certified layout we’d recommend keeping each model in its intended role.
How many THX-5002-S speakers do I need?
That depends on your layout — a basic 5.1/7.1 system typically uses two to four surround positions, while larger Atmos-style layouts may add more. We’re happy to work through a room-specific layout with you in the showroom or remotely.
