Klipsch THX-5002-L — the Current SKU for the THX® Ultra2 In-Ceiling Speaker Formerly Sold as the KL-7502-THX
The White paintable Klipsch THX-5002-L is the model Klipsch now ships in place of the KL-7502-THX, the dual 5.25" THX® Ultra2-certified in-ceiling speaker that was one of the first in-ceiling designs to earn Ultra2 certification. If you’re replacing or adding to an existing KL-7502-THX installation, the THX-5002-L is the correct current-production part.
Same Driver Complement, Same Certification
We checked the THX-5002-L’s published specifications against Klipsch’s documentation for the outgoing KL-7502-THX, and the core design carries straight over: a 1" titanium tweeter mounted in a 7.5" x 3.75" 60°-90°-110° VCT® horn skewed 45°, paired with dual 5.25" Cerametallic™ woofers in a bass-reflex enclosure vented through a 1.6" front-flush port. Frequency response (45Hz–20kHz ±3dB), sensitivity (93dB), power handling (100W/400W), 8-ohm impedance, and the 14.89" diameter/9.23" mounting-depth footprint are unchanged from the KL-7502-THX. This is the same THX® Ultra2 in-ceiling speaker under a new Klipsch model number, not a redesign.
Magnetic Grille Replaces the Old Attachment
Klipsch’s current spec sheet for the THX-5002-L calls out “premium neodymium magnets” that hold the paintable grille flush and allow tool-free removal for painting or service. Our distributor’s price sheet for this reissue explicitly lists “Magnetic Grills” as the update, and Klipsch’s documentation for the older KL-7502-THX only describes a paintable grille without mentioning magnets — so this is a genuine, if modest, hardware update layered onto an otherwise identical speaker.
Skewed Horn Geometry for Off-Axis Listening
Because in-ceiling speakers are almost never aimed directly at the listener, the THX-5002-L’s tweeter horn is angled 45° within the baffle to throw high frequencies down and outward into the room rather than straight up past the listening position. That 60°-90°-110° VCT® (Variable Contour Tractrix) pattern is designed specifically for the compromises of ceiling mounting, so dialogue and detail stay intelligible even though you’re listening well off the speaker’s primary axis.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the THX-5002-L a direct replacement for the KL-7502-THX?
Yes. The driver complement, crossover points, and published performance specifications match the KL-7502-THX. Klipsch has updated the model number and the grille attachment; the acoustic design and THX® Ultra2 certification are unchanged, so the two can be mixed in the same room without a mismatch.
Do I need a separate install kit (IK-502-C)?
Klipsch’s optional IK-502-C install kit is intended for new-construction applications where you need a bracketed back box before drywall goes up. It is not required for retrofit installation into existing ceilings. Talk to us about your specific ceiling assembly before ordering.
What’s the difference between the THX-5002-L and THX-5002-S?
The THX-5002-L uses a single 45°-skewed horn tweeter and is intended for LCR (left/center/right) duty overhead, while the THX-5002-S uses two vertically-stacked tweeters specifically tuned for wide-dispersion surround-channel use. Both share the same dual-5.25" woofer platform.
