What’s New in the AL6 Generation
The AL6 is the newest generation of the La Scala, succeeding the AL5 with a larger 3" K-1133-HP midrange compression driver — a full inch bigger than the AL5’s driver — mounted to an all-new K-406M Tractrix® horn that adds Klipsch’s Mumps™ technology for wider, smoother dispersion. Klipsch also redesigned the low-frequency section into an all-new horn-loaded, vented enclosure around the K-281 12" woofer, and added the same newly patented extended phase plug used on the Klipschorn AK7 to the tweeter driver.
A Freestanding Alternative to the Klipschorn
The La Scala traces its roots to a portable sound-reinforcement horn Paul W. Klipsch built in the 1950s, and unlike the Klipschorn, it was designed to be fully horn-loaded without requiring corner placement. That makes the AL6 the more flexible of Klipsch’s two flagship horn designs when it comes to room placement, while still delivering the same 103 dB sensitivity and 120 dB maximum output that make Klipsch’s corner horns so effortless to drive.
Optional Heritage Active Crossover
The AL6’s modified input panel supports Klipsch’s optional Heritage Active Crossover, which Klipsch first publicly demonstrated on the AL6 at Audio Advice Live 2025. The active crossover replaces the passive network with an external, time- and phase-aligned crossover for tighter driver integration; the AL6 ships fully functional on its stock passive crossover, with the active upgrade available as a later addition.

Does the La Scala AL6 need to be placed in a corner like the Klipschorn?
No. The La Scala was originally designed as a portable, freestanding horn-loaded speaker, and the AL6 carries that design forward — it performs very well pulled well away from room boundaries, which makes it a more flexible option than the Klipschorn for rooms that cannot accommodate true corner placement.
What changed between the AL5 and the AL6?
The AL6’s midrange driver grows from the AL5’s driver to a full 3" K-1133-HP compression driver on a new K-406M Tractrix® horn with Mumps™ technology, the low end moves to an all-new horn-loaded vented enclosure, and the tweeter gains the same newly patented extended phase plug used on the Klipschorn AK7.
